At the beginning of their existence, the Oilers were known as the Alberta Oilers. To prove their point, all the jerseys had ALBERTA on the back where the player's last name would normally go (Perhaps all players legally changed their last names to Alberta -- well, maybe not). About midway through the season, the Oilers joined with the rest of the crowd and replaced ALBERTA with the surnames.
