Unable to make ends meet due in no small part to onerous lease terms at Madison Square Garden and miniscule crowds there, the WHA took over the Golden Blades. In December 1973 -- 24 games into the season -- the WHA moved the team to the Philadelphia suburb of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where they became the Jersey Knights.
